Lionel Richie is back home and on the mend after being hospitalized, ABC News has confirmed.
The "Hello" artist checked himself into a hospital out of an abundance of caution after headlining a summer concert over the weekend, a source close to the singer's tour told ABC News earlier this week.
Richie performed in St. Louis at The Muny's annual summer finale concert on Saturday night.
According to TMZ on Monday, concertgoers reportedly saw Richie appearing to struggle toward the end of the show and performing his final song, "All Night Long," while sitting down.
Richie's hospitalization came more than two months after he experienced dizziness onstage during the opening night of his tour with Earth, Wind & Fire in Minnesota on June 24.
Several videos shared online at the time showed Richie performing while seated during that show.
Richie subsequently postponed two shows -- one in Columbus, Ohio, and another in Chicago -- after being advised by doctors to "rest and return to full health," according to Live Nation Chicago.
He returned to the stage on June 30 for a performance with Earth, Wind & Fire in Pittsburgh.
Along with his rescheduled tour dates, Richie is expected to take the stage at the Wynn in Las Vegas in October and November for his King of Hearts shows.

John Lennon's son Sean Ono Lennon is a dad.
The son of the legendary Beatles singer announced the news in a post on X and Instagram Wednesday with a photo saying that he's welcomed a baby boy with his partner, Charlotte Kemp Muhl.
"@charlottekempmuhl and I have created a Human Bean! His name is Aurelius! Thank you!" he wrote.
Many across Hollywood reacted to the post, including Lindsay Lohan, who wrote, "Congratulations to the beautiful couple!!!"
Patti Smith added, "Oh [Sean] I’m so happy for you both."
Aurelius is Sean Lennon's first child and would have been John Lennon's first grandchild.
Sean Lennon is the second son of the late singer. John Lennon and Yoko Ono welcomed Sean Lennon on Oct. 9, 1975.
John Lennon was also the father to Julian Lennon, whom he shared with ex-wife Cynthia Lennon.
Since his father's death in 1980, Sean Lennon has continued to honor his legacy with his brother, Julian, by sharing stories about their father. In 2024, Sean Lennon's film War Is Over! Inspired by the Music of John and Yoko won an Oscar for best animated short film.

The boy who lived is back for a brand-new era.
HBO has released a new official teaser trailer for the first season of its upcoming Harry Potter series, titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.
"There is nothing special about Harry Potter — at least that's what his Aunt Petunia always says. On his 11th birthday, a letter of admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry opens up a hidden world for Harry: one of fun, friendship and magic," its official logline reads. "But with this new adventure comes great risk as Harry is forced to face a dangerous enemy from his past."
Dominic McLaughlin leads the cast as Harry Potter. He stars alongside Alastair Stout and Arabella Stanton, who play Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. The series is described as a faithful adaptation of the books by J.K. Rowling, who serves as an executive producer.
The new teaser shows off the new crop of Hogwarts students arriving for the first day of the new school year. We see Harry, Ron and Hermione arrive on the Hogwarts Express, before Harry is sorted into Gryffindor by the sorting hat.
"Everyone thinks I'm this great wizard, but I really don't know anything," Harry says to Professor McGonagall, played by Janet McTeer.
We also see Severus Snape, as portrayed by Paapa Essiedu, signal Harry out during potions class.
"Let's hope you show some talent on the Quidditch pitch, Potter," Snape says. "You've certainly not exhibited any in here."
The series was renewed for season 2 on May 6, months ahead of its first season premiere. Succession's Jon Brown, who was a writer on season 1, has been promoted to co-showrunner for season 2. He will serve in the role alongside Francesca Gardiner, the showrunner of season 1.

Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce has made his first in-depth remarks about his July 3 wedding to music superstar Taylor Swift, opening up on his New Heightspodcast about the celebrities who attended, officiant Adam Sandler and more.
"It was insane. It's a night out we'll never forget," Kelce said in a new podcast episode that dropped Wednesday. "From the vows to, you know, just seeing everyone, to how much fun we had throughout the entire evening and hearing that kind of be relayed through everybody's stories of the night, it was just so magical, man."
Kelce and Swift got married on Fourth of July eve inside Madison Square Garden in front of a reported 1,000 guests.
"We we wanted to do it somewhere where we could have a very intimate and genuine setting without a lot of distractions and we needed it to be a private feel," Kelce said of choosing the iconic New York City venue. "And MSG went above and beyond to give us that. And I can't thank everybody enough about that that showed up, but also that helped put the show on."
Kelce and his New Heights co-host, his brother Jason Kelce, said the wedding party continued at Madison Square Garden until "they kicked us out."
The couple surprised fans by having Sandler — who starred with Travis Kelce in Happy Gilmore 3 and whose wife and daughters are well-known Swift fans — officiate the wedding.
The NFL star described Sandler as the "best person on the planet" and gave him a special shoutout for marrying the pair.
"For him to be up for getting ordained in the state of New York and marrying me and Taylor in the way he did it, in the very, you know, Sandman style, and giving us more than we could have ever imagined in that moment, knowing that it was the biggest night of both of our lives, it was absolutely insane," he said.
Both Travis Kelce and his brother also spoke about the dichotomy of having some of the biggest celebrities in the world at the wedding — guests included Tom Cruise, Paul McCartney, Stevie Nicks, Brad Pitt and more — alongside their lifelong friends and family members.
"It was so cool seeing everyone from my childhood not only mesh with Taylor and her childhood and her family and friends and people that she works with to who we've encounter[ed] ... over our careers and who we just admire as people and have become good friends with now," Travis Kelce said. "It's just been so cool to see that world come together."
He added, "We wanted it to be a beautiful ceremony but we also wanted to make sure that everybody left there having some fun. It was a magical night."
Travis Kelce and Swift had a strict no-phones policy at the wedding, and no official photos from the celebration have been released. Swift has not yet commented publicly on the wedding.
The new limited series adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic novel stars Florence Pugh as Cathy Ames, whose life becomes "intertwined with the lives of generations of men from the Trask family — notably those of Adam (Christopher Abbott) and Charles (Mike Faist).”
Throughout the trailer we hear Cathy’s narration as she muses on the evils of the world. “Evil is not always apparent at first glance,” she says. “It can come cloaked in goodness, or beauty, or love. The heart of our oldest stories.”
We see Adam immediately taken with Cathy, but his brother Charles is wary. “A girl like that doesn’t just fall out of the sky,” Charles warns. “She’s going to tear you to pieces, and I don’t want to watch it.”
The story later follows Cathy and Adam’s twin boys, Cal Trask, played by Joseph Zada, and Aron Trask, played by Joe Anders.
The seven-episode series is directed by Zoe Kazan, the granddaughter of director Elia Kazan, who previously adapted the novel into a 1955 film that launched the career of James Dean.

A new crop of celebrities is trading their day jobs for dancing shoes as Dancing with the Stars gears up for season 35.
The new season brings a fresh celebrity cast, returning fan-favorite pros and a new addition to the professional lineup following the first-ever season of Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro.
The full celebrity cast and professional dancer pairings for season 35 were revealed Wednesday exclusively on Good Morning America.
This season's cast includes actresses Jenna Dewan, Julia Stiles and Tatyana Ali; Savannah Bananas star Jackson Olson; chef Giada De Laurentiis; reality TV stars Maura Higgins, Ciara Miller and Tyler Cameron; singer Taylor Hanson; Jimmy Kimmel Live! personality Guillermo Rodriguez and more.
Adele Zaikman will join Dancing with the Stars season 35 as a pro after winning the inaugural season of Dancing with the Stars: The Next Pro.
Zaikman was crowned the winner during the series' Aug. 31 finale, earning a spot as a professional dancer in the DWTS ballroom.
Season 35 will also see the return of longtime pro Sharna Burgess, who will compete for the first time since season 30 in 2021.
Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli are returning to the judges' table, with Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough returning as co-hosts.
Dancing with the Stars season 35 will kick off with a two-night premiere Tuesday, Sept. 15, and Wednesday, Sept. 16, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+.
Following the two-night premiere, the show will air Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+.

Some familiar faces are suiting up for season 2 of Heated Rivalry.
Cast members returning to the Crave/HBO Max hockey romance series alongside stars Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams include François Arnaud and Robbie G.K., who play Scott Hunter and Kip Grady; Sophie Nélisse, who plays Rose Landry; and Ksenia Daniela Kharlamova, who plays Svetlana Vetrova.
Others reprising their roles are Christina Chang and Dylan Walsh as Shane Hollander’s parents, Yuna and David; Callan Potter and Benjamin Roy as Shane’s teammates Hayden and JJ; and Kamilla Kowal as Hayden’s wife, Jackie.

A documentary about the late Matthew Perry is headed to Netflix.
The streaming service has announced a new three-part documentary series about the Friends actor, who died on Oct. 28, 2023, at 54 years old.
Called The One About Matthew Perry, this will be the first in-depth, definitive documentary about the actor. It is directed by Emmy Award winner Mary Robertson and premieres to Netflix on Oct. 27.
The series will feature never-before-heard testimonies from Perry's sister, Mia Perry Bowick, as well as lifelong best friends of the actor. It will also have unreleased photos and videos from the Perry family's private archive.
"Told through intimate testimonies from close family and friends, this documentary event reveals the real Matthew Perry—generous, funny, vulnerable, larger than life—and the battles he fought to become the man behind the icon. A raw record of a life lived in full, and the honesty that became his greatest legacy," according to the docuseries' logline.
“Matthew Perry was one of the comedic geniuses of our time. Through his many films, TV and stage performances, and his unforgettable portrayal of Chandler Bing, he made millions of us laugh, connect, and feel a little less alone," Robertson said in a press release. "He also gave us so much more by bravely speaking about addiction. Yet the public only knew part of his story. That's why we set out to make this series: to let the people who knew and loved Matthew reveal the person behind the public figure."
Perry Bowick also released a statement on the docuseries.
"It's taken time for me to feel ready to share these memories and what it was like to love Matthew through all the complexity of his life—to see him as a whole person, not just as Chandler, and not just as someone who struggled with addiction," she said. "As his sister, he shaped who I am today, the person I strive to be, and the work to which I've devoted my life. Matthew had a beautiful heart and a generous spirit, and even in his darkest moments, he could still make you laugh and feel loved. I hope this series gives everyone who loved him, whether personally or from afar, a deeper appreciation for who he truly was, and the legacy he leaves behind."

Jonathan Bailey has dropped out of the upcoming West End revival of Sunday in the Park with George.
The announcement comes almost a month after Bailey's Wicked co-star Ariana Grande announced she was exiting the same production.
Bailey took to his Instagram Story on Tuesday to announce his decision to depart the musical revival.
“Ari is one of my dearest friends, and my support for her is unwavering. ... After much consideration, I have decided to also step back from Sunday in the Park with George," Bailey wrote.
The actor continued, "This brilliant, introspective musical has been a real passion project for me, and I feel incredibly lucky to have shared in its journey with this team. Among many things, the story explores the deep connection between George and Dot, a beautiful, devoted pairing, and I so look forward to seeing what the team, and the two actors who will now take on these roles, will create with it.”
Bailey ended his statement by sending well-wishes to the musical's company.
"I wish the very best to the entire company. I will be cheering them on as they continue with this production," Bailey wrote.
It is currently not known who will take over the production's leading roles after Bailey and Grande's departures. The production took to its Instagram Story to share a statement of its own after Bailey announced his exit.
"Following Ariana Grande's withdrawal, Jonathan Bailey has informed the producers that he has also decided to withdraw from Sunday in the Park with George. Work on the production continues," the statement reads. "Casting decisions are actively under way, and the creative team is reshaping the production around a new company while preserving the ambition and artistic integrity of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's musical."
The statement concludes with, "Further casting and production details will be announced in due course."
Sunday in the Park with George is scheduled to begin performances at the Barbican Centre in London in 2027.

Miley Cyrus is entering a new era with a new album and a return to the stage.
The singer announced Tuesday that she's releasing her 10th studio album on Sept. 18, titled Bass Persuades.
"Music takes hold of us. We feel it, sing it, sometimes dance to it, let it out and carry on," Cyrus wrote in an Instagram post.
"It is powerful, vulnerable, sweet and strong. Heart full, heartache, every part of life in between. That’s what the title means to me," she added. "Thank you for being a part of making my wildest dreams come true. I sincerely hope you love this album."
The artist also shared a video of her playing electric guitar, teasing what the new music will sound like.
Along with the new album, Cyrus is heading to the Hollywood Bowl in October for a special two-night performance.
"It’s been a while. The Hollywood Bowl is my favorite place to experience music and see my favorite artists," she wrote in a separate Instagram post. "I’ve sat in those seats many times, but I’ve never taken the stage. LA is my heart and I’m bringing it home. See you there."
Bass Persuades follows Cyrus' 2025 studio album, Something Beautiful, and her 2023 album, Endless Summer Vacation. Her song "Flowers," which appeared on the 2023 album, earned her the Grammys for record of the year and best pop solo performance.
Earlier this year, Cyrus celebrated the 20th anniversary of Hannah Montana, the TV show that made her a star, with the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special.

The judges' panel is set for season 35 of Dancing with the Stars, with Carrie Ann Inaba, Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli ready to face a new cast of celebrity and pro dancers.
Inaba and Tonioli have been on the judges' panel together for each of the show's 35 seasons, while Hough started on the show two decades ago as a pro dancer before becoming a judge in season 29.
Hough said this upcoming season of DWTS feels different than others.
"You can expect what you know and love about Dancing With the Stars but also an energized show," Hough said Tuesday on Good Morning America. "We have so much momentum. The cast is incredible. The pros are energized."
He continued, "It's going to be an incredible season. I cannot wait."
Season 35 of Dancing with the Stars will premiere with back-to-back episodes on Tuesday, Sept. 15, and Wednesday, Sept. 16, airing at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+ and streaming the next day on Hulu.
This season's celebrity cast members announced so far include Savannah Bananas second baseman Jackson Olson, as well as The Traitors star Maura Higgins and Summer House star Ciara Miller.
The full cast will be announced Wednesday on GMA.
This season will also see Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough returning as hosts.
Ribeiro said on GMA that the "magic" of the show is the thoughtful pairings of celebrity and pro dancers, while Julianne Hough teased a special theme night she's looking forward to this season.
"The fashion is going to be really fun with one specific theme night," she said. "For me at least, I'm very excited."

Tires is rolling into season 4.
Netflix has renewed the comedy series for a fourth season. The show is co-created and co-written by its star Shane Gillis. John McKeever co-created, directs and executive produces, while star Steve Gerben also co-created and executive produces the series.
"It’s cool to get to make another season of Tires," Gillis said in a press release.
McKeever also gave a statement on the renewal. "I love this show and everyone who works on it. Excited to make more," he said.
Tracey Pakosta, Netflix vice president of U.S. Comedy, said, "Tires continues to deliver the unapologetic comedy and authentic point of view Shane, John and Steve's fans know and love, and season 3 hitting its highest-ever Top 10 ranking proves this fandom just keeps growing. We love working with this team and can't wait to see what's next for the Valley Forge crew in season 4."
Tires follows Will (Gerben), "the nervous and unqualified heir to an auto repair chain" who "attempts to turn his father’s business around despite constant torture from his cousin and now employee, Shane (Gillis)."
The show has filmed all three of its previous seasons in Pennsylvania. It has worked with over 250 local vendors and businesses in the state across six towns: West Chester, Philadelphia, Phoenixville, Oaks, Frazer and Glenside.
Season 3 of Tires debuted on Aug. 13. In addition to Gillis and Gerben, it starred Chris O’Connor, Kilah Fox, Stavros Halkias and Thomas Hayden Church.

The jury has found Duane "Keffe D" Davis guilty in the murder of Tupac Shakur, 30 years after the rapper was killed in a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas.
Jurors deliberated for less than three hours before finding him guilty of murder with the use of a deadly weapon with the intent to promote, further or assist a criminal gang. The 63-year-old faces a possible maximum sentence of life in prison.
Davis stood with his lawyer as the verdict was read, then sat with his hands clasped on the table.
Clark County District Court Judge Carli Kierny has set Davis' sentencing for Oct. 13
Prosecutors say Davis did not fire the gun that killed Shakur in a drive-by shooting near the Las Vegas Strip on Sept. 7, 1996 -- they allege that was the work of either Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson, Davis' nephew, or another man in the backseat of the car.
Police and prosecutors have accused Davis, an admitted longtime leader of a Los Angeles street gang, of being the "shot caller" and handing the gunman the murder weapon.
The jurors retired Monday after a marathon day of closing arguments that broke only briefly for a bathroom break and to get Davis a cough lozenge from Judge Kierny's personal stash.
Even without Davis' numerous confessions to his role in the killing of Tupac Shakur, the case is "drenched with circumstantial evidence" and corroborating witnesses, prosecutor Binu Palal told the jury during his closing argument Monday.
That -- taken together with Davis' incriminating and consistent accounts to police, to the media, and on the pages of his self-published memoir -- overwhelmingly show his guilt, Palal argued.
"For nearly 18 years, Duane Davis has told the police, television, books, YouTube interviewers -- anybody that will listen, he has told -- he is responsible for the murder of Tupac Shakur," Palal said. "Tell him you hear him -- find him guilty."
Meanwhile, defense attorney Michael Sanft said that three decades after the drive-by shooting, all prosecutors really have is Davis' alleged confessions -- which aren't worth the paper they're written on.
"We have to ask ourselves the question really at this particular point: Why are we here 30 years later if Duane Davis had actually confessed -- truly confessed?" Sanft said.
Sanft repeatedly emphasized what he said was a lack of real evidence supporting his client's incriminating claims while urging jurors to find Davis not guilty, saying it's the "only verdict that makes sense in this case."

On July 4, Richie shared a message on Instagram, thanking his followers for their concern and support.
"Thank you for every message, every kind word, and for all your love," he wrote in part. "I'm doing well, and I'm grateful for all of you."
Along with his rescheduled tour dates, Richie is expected to take the stage at the Wynn in Las Vegas in October and November for his King of Hearts shows.

Country music legend Dolly Parton will be remembered at two Dollyfest concerts in 2027, her estate announced Monday.
The concerts, billed as the "party of a lifetime," will be held across two consecutive weekends in 2027 in Nashville and London, according to her estate.
The celebration was originally scheduled to take place in Nashville in January this year, according to the estate, and was intended to be a "multi-artist event" featuring Parton, who died on Aug. 25 at age 80 after a brief battle with cancer.
"Many people behind the scenes know that DOLLYFEST is a dream of Dolly's that was intended to take place on her 80th birthday in Nashville," Danny Nozell, Parton's longtime manager, said in a statement Monday. "We had the venue booked and we had the announcement ready to go. And then, in August 2025, Dolly had to take a step back after her initial health challenges. A lot of people always say, WWDD (What Would Dolly Do?), and, well, at this moment, DOLLYFEST is WDWD (What Dolly Would Do!)."
"What Dolly started, we will ensure is brought to life," Nozell added.
Exact dates for the two 2027 Dollyfest celebrations are forthcoming, Parton's estate said, along with more information on who will be performing.
The upcoming celebrations were announced three days after Parton was laid to rest in a private memorial service in Nashville on Aug. 28, her niece Lainey Mae Parton shared in a social media post over the weekend.
Parton, who was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, requested a private funeral, her nephew Bryan Seaver said in a video message announcing her death.
Parton was born one of 12 children in a small town in Tennessee and propelled herself to become one of the world's most successful entertainers, releasing 50 albums and winning 11 Grammy Awards.
She took a step back from public appearances over the past year as she dealt with health issues, details of which she did not share publicly.
Just days before her death, Parton shared a statement with People saying she was taking time to address health issues she "didn't pay attention to" prior to Dean's death last year.
Parton's last major in-person public appearance was in June, when she made a surprise appearance at the grand opening of a gas station and restaurant called Dolly's Tennessean Travel Stop.

Stephen Kalyn is going from the hockey rink to the courtroom.
The Off Campus breakout actor has been cast in The Housemaid's Secret. He will play the role of Brock Cunningham, a lawyer who is in a relationship with Sydney Sweeney's character, Millie Calloway.
Lionsgate announced the casting news in a video shared to Instagram on Monday. The video finds Kalyn reading Freida McFadden’s novel before walking inside a trailer on a film set.
"Welcome home, Brock. Stephen Kalyn joins the cast of The Housemaid’s Secret," the post's caption reads.
The Housemaid's Secret will be based on the second book in the trilogy by McFadden. It is the direct sequel to the 2025 film The Housemaid, directed by Paul Feig. This new movie finds Millie taking a job as a housekeeper for a woman she's never allowed to see, who remains behind a locked door. She discovers the truth behind all of this and it threatens to expose secrets darker than her own.
Lionsgate announced plans for a film adaptation of The Housemaid's Secret in January. At the time, the studio announced it would begin production on the film in 2026.
Sweeney and Michele Morrone are set to return to their roles of Millie and Enzo Accardi in the movie. Joining the cast for the sequel are Kirsten Dunst, Brittany Snow and Paul Anthony Kelly.
Feig will also return to direct. Sweeney is set to executive produce while Feig also produces through his Pretty Dangerous Pictures alongside Laura Fischer. Rebecca Sonnenshine will once again adapt McFadden's words for the screen.
At the time the sequel was announced, Feig said, "It’s been thrilling to see audiences around the world fall in love with The Housemaid and the incredible work of our talented cast and crew. We’re lucky that Freida McFadden has already extended Millie’s journey on the page, and that we get to work with Rebecca Sonnenshine and Lionsgate to bring this next story to audiences."
The Housemaid's Secret arrives in theaters on Dec. 17, 2027.

D4vd's legal representation was granted a withdrawal during a hearing on Monday, according to ABC Los Angeles station KABC, as the singer was arraigned on charges alleging he murdered a teenage girl whose decomposed remains were found in the front trunk of his abandoned vehicle last year.
D4vd pleaded not guilty during the hearing, which comes a month after a judge ruled that the singer will stand trial on first-degree murder, sexual abuse of a child and unlawful mutilation of human remains charges in connection with the death of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez.
He has been appointed a public defender, according to KABC. His next court date was set for Oct. 9
D4vd, whose legal name is David Burke, previously pleaded not guilty to the same charges following his arrest in April. He has remained held without bail.
A trial is expected to take place within 90 days of Monday's arraignment.
Prosecutors allege that D4vd and Rivas Hernandez began a sexual relationship in 2023, when he was 18 and she was 13, and that he killed her after she threatened to expose their illegal relationship and ruin his career.
Just as tickets for his world tour were set to go on sale, it is alleged that the "Romantic Homicide" singer ordered an Uber that brought Rivas Hernandez to his Hollywood Hills home on April 23, 2025, prosecutors said. That was the last time she was seen alive, according to prosecutors.
Prosecutors allege that D4vd stabbed the teen multiple times, watching her bleed out, and then undertook a series of "ghoulish" steps to dismember her body and get rid of evidence. Her badly decomposed remains were found in two body bags in the front trunk of D4vd's impounded Tesla in September 2025, according to prosecutors.
During a five-day hearing in July, prosecutors presented some of their evidence in the case. They called a dozen witnesses as they set out to establish probable cause that D4vd committed the criminal offenses to move forward with a trial.
"D4vd allegedly squandered his fame and fortune by brutally killing a young girl because he feared their illicit sexual relationship would ruin his aspiring career," Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said following the preliminary hearing. "The only headlines that will accompany his stage name from here forward will be about the vicious murder of a young girl."

The Metropolitan Museum of Art announced Monday it will not go forward with its exhibit on fashion designer John Galliano, which had been planned to coincide with the 2027 Met Gala.
The exhibition, John Galliano: Horizons, was met with backlash when it was announced in late July because of the fashion designer's history of making antisemitic remarks.
Galliano was fired from his job as creative director of Christian Dior in 2011 and found guilty of antisemitic behavior by a French court later that same year.
In a statement posted on its website, the Metropolitan Museum of Art said the decision to cancel the exhibit, which was scheduled to open next May, was made with Galliano.
The museum also released a statement from the designer, who also previously worked as the head designer of Givenchy and was previously named international designer of the year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
"After much reflection and discussion with The Met and all those involved, I have decided, with great sadness, that it is best for the exhibition not to take place at this time," Galliano said in a statement shared by The Met. "I remain fully accountable for the pain caused by my words in the past, particularly the hurt I caused to the Jewish and Asian communities, and I remain deeply sorry for it. I understand that meaningful atonement is not achieved through an exhibition, institutional recognition or a single public gesture. It is a continuing responsibility, demonstrated through listening, learning and one’s conduct over time."
The statement continued, in part, "I do not want the debate surrounding me to place The Met in a difficult position or to distract from the remarkable work of the Costume Institute. I also recognize and respect that an exhibition honoring my work would be painful for some."
After stepping away from fashion for several years, Galliano spent 10 years working as artistic director of the Maison Margiela fashion house, leaving the role in 2024, according to The Associated Press.
The Galliano exhibit was to be held at The Met's Costume Institute. Each spring, the institute's new exhibit is opened by the star-studded Met Gala.
The gala, chaired by Condé Nast chief content officer Anna Wintour, is a major fundraiser for the museum and the Costume Institute in particular.
Wintour said in a statement Monday that she supports the decision to not move forward with the Galliano exhibition.
"John's decision that the exhibition devoted to his work should not take place at this time is very courageous and a measure of the man he is," she said. "I believe this is the right decision, and both he and the Museum have my full support."
A new spring Costume Institute exhibition and more information on the 2027 Met Gala will be announced at a later date, according to the museum.
